A Welcome Home Gift...

...that wasn't so welcome.

On Sunday we came home from the hospital with Ryder. My mom still had Paisley and was going to bring her home to us on Monday and stay a week to help us adjust to life with a new baby and a four year old. (Don't I have the best mom is the world? I think so!) I was excited to come home to my clean house, unpack our hospital stuff, take Ryder on a tour of his new digs and take a nap. Well that all changed the minute we opened the front door and a nasty wet/mold smell assaulted our poor unsuspecting noses. I guess that at some point while we were gone Topeka got a bunch of rain and our basement flooded.

So we decided to divided and conquer. Toby assessed the damage and made a few calls to see what could be done while I fed little man and laid him down to sleep. Then the two of us moved everything from the basement up to the dinning room and garage. I helped as much as I could and then I called in reinforcements (Toby's parents and sister Laura). I think that my post pregnancy tears/meltdown had them here in a jiffy helping do the heavy lifting. Toby and I went to bed worn slick that night. Mr. Ryder did not get the memo that his mommy and daddy needed sleep because he was up every 30 minutes for feedings. Needless to say our first night home with little man was a rough one.

Our game plan for the basement is a face lift. The floors will be tile (no carpet to be on the safe side), the walls will be a khaki color, the trim will be white and at some point in the near future we will be able to move everything back down to where it belongs. YAY!!!

(I will post pictures when the project is complete)

Fun with Nana

My mom (Nana) and Papa Bob had the pleasure of keeping Paisley for us while we were in the hospital with Ryder. Each night when we talked to Paisley she would go on and on about all the fun stuff they where doing. Here is a recap of the fun what was had.

They celebrated Ryder's birthday with yummy cake. Paisley even got to blow out the candle because she is the big sister of course!

She helped Nana in the garden.

She fed the birds.
Blew bubbles with Sophie. I am told that Sophie is very good a popping/eating the bubbles. (You can almost hear Paisley laughing in these pictures).

She even got to play one of her most favorite games...Hopscotch!
She enjoyed a nice relaxing hot tub swim with Nolan (Bob's great nephew) who is her age.
And she even got to drive!
I don't think that she missed us very much. What do you think?

A Baby Story - Ryder

Friday May 21st, 5:30am
Toby and I headed to the hospital to start the induction process. (I was induced with Paisley so we knew what to expect).

(Our last family of three photo)

(The last belly shot and boy is that a BIG belly)

Friday May 21st, around 7:30am
After getting checked in they started the pitocin. The plan was for my doctor to break my water sometime after 8:30 and if everything progressed like it did with Paisley we would be holding Ryder in our arms by late afternoon.

Friday May 21st, around 8:30am
Well, Ryder decided that he didn't want to wait for the doctor and my water broke on its own around 8:30am. The nurse checked me and I was 90% effaced and at 3 cm. After that things started to happen very fast. My contracting starting coming faster (about two minutes apart) and boy where they strong.

Friday May 21st, around 9:30
I wanted the my epidural but I was afraid that if I got the drugs now they would ware off before game time so I tried to be strong. That lasted all of about 15 minutes until I paged the nurse to ask for the happy drugs. While she was in my room I also asked if I could get up and use the restroom. She looked and me and asked "Pee or Poo" and I said "Pee but I am feeling a little pressure". She then told me that she didn't believe me and wanted to check me first and it is a good thing she did because I was already 6cm. She then told me that I wasn't allowed out of bed and that she was going to page the Epidural guy.

She came back into the room a few minutes later to inform me that he was tied up down in surgery and wouldn't be free for another 15 minutes. That news had me in tears. Part of my birth plan was DRUGS and I wanted them NOW!! I was very scared that my epidural guy wouldn't make it in time. So I agreed to have Stadol to take the edge off and wait for the epidural. I do not like Stadol. It was not kind to me. It did not take the edge off it only made me feel high and itchy but the problem was my limbs where tingly/going numb so I couldn't scratch the itch. It was not a fun feeling.

(A picture from the waiting room action)

May 21st, sometime later (maybe 10:00ish)
The Epidural god arrived, YAY!!! Things started to feel MUCH better. Then I started to feel pressure again and all I could think is "Oh my goodness this is happening so fast this time!" So we paged the nurse and she checked me again and this time I was at 9cm. So she paged my doctor who was at the office in the building next door.

May 21st, a little before 11:00am
Dr. Capelli showed up and asks me why I was in such a hurry as they are transforming the room for delivery.

May 21st, 11:02am
After 10 minutes of pushing, Ryder is born!

Toby and I spent about 20 minutes alone with Ryder before he went out into the waiting room to get Miss Paisley Pie so she could meet her new little brother.

She walked into the room and said "Hi Ryder, I love you sooo much!" It was so sweet. It is safe to say that we all are pretty smitten over our new little guy!

Baby Update - 38 Weeks

Well, at 38 weeks last Friday I am officially counting down the days until I can count little baby fingers and toes! As of today (if everything goes as planned) I only have 4 more days until I can hold my new little guy in my arms and I can't wait!!!

At my appointment last Friday Ryder's heart rate was strong 120. He is still head down and I am making progress. So my doctor wants me to come in this Wednesday to see how things are progressing to determine if I will be induced on Wednesday, Thursday or Friday. Knowing how close it is to meeting this new little guy I wanted to share yet another cute email about moms. This email/poem is tittled "A Newborn's Conversation with god."

A baby asked God, "They tell me you are sending me to earth tomorrow, but how am I going to live there being so small and helpless?"

God said, "Your angel will be waiting for you and will take care of you."
The child further inquired, "But tell me, here in heaven I don't have to do anything but sing and smile to be happy."

God said, "Your angel will sing for you and will also smile for you. And you will feel your angel's love and be very happy."

Again the small child asked, "And how am I going to be able to understand when people talk to me if I don't know the language?"

God said, "Your angel will tell you the most beautiful and sweet words you will ever hear, and with much patience and care, your angel will teach you how to speak."
"And what am I going to do when I want to talk to you?"

God said, "Your angel will place your hand together and will teach you how to pray."
"Who will protect me?"

God said, "Your angel will defend you even if it means risking its life."
"But I will always be sad because I will not see you anymore."

God said, "Your angel will always talk to you about Me and will teach you the way to come back to ME, even though I will always be next to you."
At that moment there was much peace in Heaven, but voices from Earth could be heard and the child hurriedly asked, "God, if I am to leave now, please tell me my angel's name."

God said, You will simply call her, "Mom."
There is something about this little email poem that warms my heart every time I see it!

Girls Night Out

Every October a group of us girls head to Osage Beach for a weekend of outlet shopping and the BEST Mexican food E-V-E-R! Well, this year two of us are pregnant with one of your little ones due in October. Not wanting anyone to miss out on the trip we decided to more the date up. Too bad the idea didn't come to me sooner because we might have been able to make it to Osage Beach but it was a little last minute (and Ryder could come any day now). So we decided to stay close to home this time and settled for a night out at Legends.
Full of "Big" ideas Tiff (the other pregnant one in the group) and I decided to meet early so we could get a pre-dinner snack of soft pretzels and chocolate covered apples. Yummy!! After Tonya & Amy got off work they headed our way. After we got checked into our hotel it was off to Dinner at Los Cabos (we wanted to keep the Mexican food theme). It wasn't the same but boy was it good! After dinner we did a little window shopping and stopped for sweets from the Rocky Mountain Chocolate Factory. Before we headed back to the hotel we stopped at Target for some adult drinks for the half of our group what was not 'with child' and more food for me (I don't think that I stopped eating all night). Back at the hotel room we enjoyed good conversation, drinks and snacks. It is so nice to have a good group of girlfriends!!
On Saturday we enjoyed our free hotel breakfast and then parted ways. Tiff and I made one more stop back over at Legends to finish our shopping and to get a pretzel for the road. By the time I got home it was close to 1:00pm and the house was empty (Toby and Paisley were visiting his mom to drop off her Mother's Day gift) so I had the house to myself. I read a few chapters in my new book and then I took a 4 hour nap. When I woke up Toby and Paisley were home and they had brought me a smoothie. They are the BEST!!
Sunday Toby, Paisley & I did yard work together. I didn't get to plant flowers this year for Mother's day but truth be told I don't think that I could have this year with my bump in the way. And as far as Mother's Day weekends go, this was a very relaxing and enjoyable one for me! Thank you Paisley & Ryder (and Toby)!!

Mother's Day 2010 (A Little Late)

Happy Mother's Day to all my mommy friends!!
Last year I received this email and saved it because I wanted to put it on my blog only with pictures of MY little one. I just love it because it is sooo true. Enjoy!
Before I was a Mom,
I never tripped over toys or forgot words to a lullaby.
I didn't worry whether or not my plants were poisonous.
I never thought about immunizations.

Before I was a Mom,
I had never been puked on. Pooped on. Chewed on. Peed on.
I had complete control of my mind and my thoughts.
I slept all night.

Before I was a Mom,
I never held down a screaming child so doctors could do tests or give shots.
I never looked into teary eyes and cried.
I never got gloriously happy over a simple grin.
I never sat up late hours at night watching a baby sleep.

Before I was a Mom,
I never held a sleeping baby just because I didn't want to put her down.
I never felt my heart break into a million pieces when I couldn't stop the hurt.
I never knew that something so small could affect my life so much.
I never knew that I could love someone so much.

Before I was a Mom,
I don't know the feeling of having my heart outside my body.
I didn't know how special it could feel to feed a hungry baby.
I didn't know that bond between a mother and her child.
I didn't know that something so small could make me feel so important and happy.

Before I was Mom,
I had never gotten up in the middle of the night every 10 minutes to make sure all was okay.
I had never know the warmth, the joy, the love, the heartache, the wonderment
or the satisfaction of being a Mom.
I didn't know I was capable of feeling so much before I was a Mom.
A note to my mom:
Happy Mother's Day! I am the mother I am today because of you. Thank you for teaching me how to do what needs to be done to get through the day. You are my rock and I love you more than you will ever know! -Sis

Practice Makes Perfect

After my baby doctor appointment last Friday I toured the hospital again (they said that changes had been made since having Paisley but I didn't really notice them). The one difference that I did notice this time was being sent home with a "Big Sister" bag for Paisley. This bag had diapers (so she could practice changing them on her stuffed animals), a baby hat (just like the one Ryder will get) and a lot of Big Sister stickers.

When I first gave Paisley the bag she wasn't all the interested in the baby stuff so I didn't push it but a few days later she started asking questions and wanted to learn what to do when Ryder gets here. So she picked out a few of her favorite stuffed friends and went to work. She had so much fun learning something new and thought that it was so funny to see her animals in the diapers. She also informed me that she would not change a poohy diaper EVER because that "Is just disgusting!"

Sleeping Beauty

Ok, so after Clare did a Sleeping Beauty post. I knew that I wanted to do one also (I know I am a copycat). So lately I have snapping pictures of little Miss Paisley Pie in all of her funny sleep positions.

This one is the "Peter Pan"

I don't know what else to call this but "Confused"

"Snuggle Bug"

"Slugger Love" -She is sleeping on her favorite heart pillow from Grandma Donna & Grandpa Randy snuggling with Slugger (the Royals mascot). I think she looks so cute and peaceful.

"I'll Never Let Go" -Name that movie. (Look at that death grip on Woody's arm even in sleep)

Mini Family Vacation

We decided that before we welcome Ryder into this world we wanted one more family vacation as a family of three but due to my comfort level we decided it was best to stay close to home. So our destination was set; Kansas City, MO!

We used Toby's hotel points and stayed at the Hampton Inn & Suites on the Plaza for free. Paisley was so excited to be staying in a hotel again (she loves to travel and explore new places). She was entertained for a while just opening all of the doors/drawers and checking the phone to see if anyone was calling us. My only complaint about this fabulous hotel was the ginormous hill that it sat on. Silly us, we walked to dinner and back. On the way down the hill I was afraid that I would trip and fall causing me to steamroll over poor Paisley but thank goodness that didn't happen! And the walk up the hill was pure HELL! I was panting like a dog and my legs we shaking. I wanted to sit down and make Toby go get the car but I keep on going because I had my little cheerleader cheering me on "Don't give up mommy, you can do it." How sad/funny is that?!

Sorry, I got distracted thinking about that awful hill. So, after making it down the hill it was off to dinner at Tomfooleries (one of my most favorite restaurants on the Plaza)! And lucky us we made in time for happy hour, so our dinner was half price (score another one for being thrifty)! Paisley was very impressed because they have a train that goes around the ceiling and it is kind of dark and loud so she didn't have to be super quite.

After dinner walked around on the Plaza for a bit enjoying the nice weather until Paisley saw the horses. So we headed over so she could pet them. The next thing we know we are going on a carriage ride. (How could we say no to that happy little face?)

She was so excited that she talked the WHOLE ride. At one point the driver (is that the correct term?) turned around and said "Boy, she doesn't talk much does she?" We just smiled and said "No, she is very shy." :o)

She had to say "Hi" to everyone we passed and of course she had to wave like the little Princess that she is! After we got to the hotel we watched a little TV and then all of us passed out. It was a very good night!

On Saturday morning we meet our friends; Clare, JR & Fiona at....

This was the first time Paisley had ever been to the KC Zoo and she LOVED it!

We meet at 9:30 so we could bet the crowd and lucky us all of the animals we up and about having fun (just like our kiddos)!

(This Lama picture is for my momma)

Thank you again Clare and JR for meeting us at the zoo and letting us use your coupons! We miss our Topeka friends a lot now that you are our KC friends. We will have to get together more often (or move back)!

All in all, not too bad for a little mini family vacation close to home!
