Good News

I am happy to announce that Ryder now has a clean bill of health! (I got the call this morning) Did you hear that? That was me breathing a big sigh of relief.

This past month has been a little crazy. The last issue was his thyroid. First they said that his newborn screening came back abnormal and his thyroid was high. Then a week later they said it was actually low, so they had us come in for blood work and today the results are in and he is just fine! I have either been on the phone or at the office so much this past month that the receptionist has dubbed Ryder the office mascot and she now knows my voice when I call. Yesterday all I said was "Hello, this is" and before I could finish she said "Ryder's Mom?" Yeah, I have been that crazy mom!
I got Ryder's pictures taken at JC Penney's last week. What do you think of them?
(He was starting to get sleepy on the last picture)

Move Over Picasso

There is a new artist in town!

This newly acquired piece of art is from an up and coming artist.

"OSCAR"

About the artist: She has been 'into' art for about three years now. Lives at home with her parents, brother & two very bad dogs. She is temperamental with her work, free with her love and super funny!
About this piece: This is a picture of one of the artist's very bad dogs peeing in the grass (glad to see it was the grass not the couch this time). Notice her the attention to detail; see his tongue sticking out, his three legs straight down in the grass and the one leg lifted with a little pink line (for the pee). And look at her bold use of color. I LOVE it and the artist for the matter!!
It is so to see the fun new things she is doing now all on her own. Four is a fun age!

Noisy Boys

The other night Paisley had a bad dream so she came to bed with us. She was laying between Toby & I facing him (until his snoring starting to bother her), then she rolled over and put her arm around me and sighed and said "Why are boys so noisy?" (Ryder was also snoring). I just laughed and said that I didn't know. She is so funny!

I was able to get a little movie of Ryder snoring (you may have to turn your volume up to hear him).

***Update: Talked to the doctor and Ryder will not need any more testing at this time. YAY!! The specialist said that because Ryder's heart rate didn't drop very low when he quit breathing it didn't look like anything to worry about. But we are to call if Ryder keeps having issues or if I get worried about his breathing. So for now I am going to listen to the doctor and just relax (but still watch him like a hawk).

Big Sister Update

Paisley is loving her new roll as the big sister. She has been sooo helpful and at times maybe a little too helpful.
She also loves getting to help feed him.
And she has to help with EVERY bath because, "That what big sisters do and I need to make sure he is not scared." Anytime Ryder cries during his bath she gives him his binky and says in the most softest, mommy like voice "It's ok Bubs, I'm here. Your ok. Don't cry, Bubs."
Oh, it is the sweetest thing EVER!
And she asked if we could move her car seat to the middle so she could be closer to Ryder, "Just in case he need me mommy."
What a lucky little boy to have such a loving big sister!

Baby Bear Update - Three Weeks

Ok, so I kept trying to post this but couldn't find the energy to finish. Not today, I will finish! Let's blame it on me being a busy/stressed new momma!

1) Jaundice:
Ryder left the hospital with jaundice (we figured he would have it because Paisley had it). We had to take him in to get his bilirubin checked each day for 7 days. He topped out at 19.6, just shy of needed phototheraphy. I am happy to say at the two week mark it was back down to a 'normal' level. YAY, no more yellow baby!

2) Stats:At his last check-up for the bilirubin (two week mark) we got some official stats for his baby book and our little baby bear is growing like a weed!

Weight: 9lbs 6oz (80%)
Height: 23 1/2 in (off the chart)

3) Breathing:
After being home for a little over a week we noticed that Ryder was having breathing issues when he ate. He would stop breathing and we had to try different things to get him to start breathing again. We just assumed that it was because he was being a little pig and was getting too much milk but I wanted to make sure so I asked the doctor about it. (Ryder was kind enough to demonstrate his new scary talent at the appointment). I was then told that if he stopped breathing while he was awake (either eating or not) that he could stop breathing in his sleep and that put him at a higher risk for SIDS.

Hello, so NOT a word you want to hear in the same sentence when someone is talking about your baby! So they sent us off to get a sleep apnea machine for the weekend to monitor his breathing and heart rate. He only made the machine go off once in three days. But because there was activity they want us to follow up with a neonatal specialist (we hope to get in sometime this week). In the mean time we are using a different sleep monitor that my very kind Topeka friends got for us to keep me from losing my mind while we waited to hear back from the doctor and I have to say it has been a life saver! I can sleep when he sleeps now without fear. (Thanks again ladies! You are the BEST!)
